A large German steel producer has expanded its plant in Bochum with the construction of two new strip processing plants. The associated recooling plant was planned and realised by ServTec, which decided to work with KERN Industrie Automation to implement the electrical and automation systems. This included the planning, manufacturing and installation of the complete MCC unit as well as the entire control and operation system.

After just 10 months of implementation, from planning to operational readiness, the entire system was accepted by the customer in August 2024 and put into continuous operation.

Technical data:

The plant has a maximum cooling capacity of 28 MW and features state-of-the-art plant technology. Six cooling towers from the manufacturer Baltimore Aircoil with a closed circuit system and integrated smooth tube heat exchanger are used. The cooling towers used are among the largest cooling towers available on the market with a closed-circuit system. The complete water treatment, in compliance with all requirements of the Federal Immission Control Act, was also part of the overall package. State-of-the-art technology from Inwatec is used here.

The combination of intelligent system control from KERN and proven thermal management from SERVTEC enables energy-saving operation for the end customer.
